Workshop Series

A S.T.E.M Program  Developed

by: Jim Dorvil  Exclusively for SneakerBeatz Inc.

UNDER MOU WITH: The NYC DOE & The NYPL

Overview

Purpose             Goals              Audience            Outline

 Purpose
The purpose of the workshops are to educate participants on the history of sneakers and the production. The workshops touch on the economic and social impacts sneakers have had locally and globally.
The workshops center on the “participants” as the focus of the design process. In many cases teamwork and sharing are at the core of the fabrication phase.
Skills in science, technology, engineering and math are utilized while the participants put their artistic talents to work.Participants learn the importance of branding and make a brand name for themselves.
Self-worth, value and appreciation are the end products that go into every model that is produced in the workshops.

Goals
By the end of the program, participants would have:

  • Gained knowledge of the history of sneakers.
  • Become familiar with the sneaker production process.
  • Increased awareness of the economic impacts of the sneaker industry locally and globally.
  • Have a greater value of ideals that go into sneaker design, marketing and distribution.
  • Acquired skills in maintenance and care of their own sneakers.
  • Participated in a potential sneaker recycling program
  • Designed and produced a model sneaker

Audience
The workshops are designed for ages 7-21 in general but anyone would benefit from participating in them. The knowledge and experiences gained by participation is intergenerational, genderless and transcends in to many different aspects of life and education.
Several educational institutions have expressed interest in having these workshops at their facilities for their populations and programs.
Over time the workshops will be more advanced and will ultimately seek to produce more than mock samples.
